A master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture examined the effect of replacing yellow peas instead of soybean meal in the diet of laying hens on productive performance and blood biochemical traits.
The thesis, presented by student Iman Joudat Mohammed, aimed to evaluate the efficiency of substituting yellow peas at different levels in place of soybean meal in the diets of Lohmann laying hens, with or without the addition of enzymes. This was achieved by monitoring productive performance and blood biochemical traits in order to identify cost-effective nutritional alternatives that support the sustainability of the poultry sector.
The study concluded that yellow peas can partially replace soybean meal without negative effects on productive traits, thereby improving economic returns since peas are less costly than soybean meal.
