About the Department
The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering was opened on 10/1/2005 under the name of the Department of Horticulture, and in 2009 the name was changed to the Department of Horticulture and Garden Engineering. The new name came with the aim of shedding light on one of the scientific specializations related to the Department of Horticulture, which is the specialty of garden coordination and design.
The importance of the department lies in preparing specialized agricultural engineering and technical cadres competent in the field of horticultural sciences and garden engineering and spreading horticultural culture in society. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. Kefaia Ghazi Saeed.
Vision, Mission & Objectives
Vision
The department aspires to prepare technical agricultural engineers in the field of horticultural sciences and garden engineering (ornamental plants, fruits, vegetables, plant tissue culture, as well as garden engineering and design) by improving the quality of teaching in the department, raising the scientific level of students, and qualifying them in the field of scientific and technical knowledge.
Mission
Preparing a distinguished horticultural cadre specialized in the field of horticultural sciences within special quality standards to meet the requirements of the labor market to contribute to the advancement of the agricultural sector and achieve food and environmental security.
Objectives
- Developing curricula related to fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, and garden engineering and design at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Preparing advanced and distinguished scientific programs in the field of horticultural sciences in light of national standards.
- Continuous preparation of graduates to be able to apply scientific and technical knowledge and modern agricultural technology.
- Cooperating with college departments, colleges, and other research centers in conducting joint research that serves the community.
- Providing expertise, studies, and technical consultations related to the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants.
- Preparing a database in the department for educational and research aspects and faculty member data.
- Establishing a system for continuous monitoring and evaluation in the department.
