The Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources at the College of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division and coinciding with World Soil Day, organized a scientific symposium titled "Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities." The event was attended by the college’s teaching staff and students.
The symposium aimed to establish the culture of "precise measurement as a fundamental tool for soil protection." It highlighted the importance of providing reliable scientific data regarding soil health and fertility. The discussion focused on linking these measurements to sustainable decision-making to combat environmental degradation, ensure food security, and enhance resilience against climate change. This approach seeks to shift efforts from mere general awareness to action plans based on technical figures and facts, ensuring the sustainability of land resources for future generations.
The symposium included lectures delivered by faculty members Dr. Kawther Hakim Ibrahim, Assistant Lecturer Azhin Othman Mohammed, and Assistant Lecturer Hanan Salah Mahdee, who explained the importance of soil and how to protect it from pollutants to ensure healthy cities.
