Under the patronage of the respected President of the University of Kirkuk, Professor Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Ibrahim Ahmed, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the college, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division, organized an awareness symposium on the role of university guidance on university students, in the presence of the Dean. The college, the teaching staff, and the college students.
The symposium included a lecture delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Jinan Qahtan Sarhan, Head of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Kirkuk, in which she explained what is meant by guidance, which is the process of helping the individual to use his capabilities and abilities properly, and what are the components of psychological guidance. Guidance is a process, i.e. It includes sequential and separate steps. Guidance is of an educational nature that works to change behavior. The counselor is a planner for the counseling process. The counselor is an ordinary person. Guidance aims to improve the counselor and the environment in which counseling takes place.
She added that counseling aims to achieve psychological health, that is, achieving emotional maturity, understanding, accepting and achieving oneself, academic development, professional development, and social development.
