A research team of teachers at the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, namely Professor Dr. Karim Abdullah Hassan Al-Bayati, Dr. Zakaria Mahmoud Muhammad, Dr. Abbas Abdullah Taha, Dr. Hassan Habib Hassan, Dr. Hussein Abdullah Ahmed, and Dr. Ashraf Hashem Ali, published research in the journal IOP Conf. Series: Earth and Environmental Science classified within Scopus.
The researchers explained that their research dealt with the study of the management of the yellow corn stalk borer, Sesamia cretica Led, using some pesticides and their alternatives and their effect on the production components of the yellow corn crop, Zea mays, in Kirkuk Governorate.
The researchers indicated that their study aimed to reduce the use of pesticides that are harmful to the environment and to use alternatives that avoid environmental pollution in combating insects, including the corn stalk borer.
The researchers stated that their study concluded that there was a clear effect of the materials used in the treatments, with a relative superiority of the ash and table salt treatments over the two insecticide treatments, diazinon 10% granular and Actara EC25.
