The College of Law and Political Science organized an awareness-raising scientific symposium under the slogan "The scourge of drugs on society / legal, legal and health dimensions", in cooperation with the Office of Combating Intellectual Terrorism in Kirkuk and the Kirkuk Health Department, in the presence of a number of college deans, clerics, teachers and associates. The symposium aimed to introduce the university's affiliates and students On the dangers of narcotic substances and drugs and their negative impact on the health of the individual and building society and how to help addicted people get rid of this dangerous scourge, and to emphasize the role of educational institutions, places of worship and the media by taking their role in raising awareness of this phenomenon and activating more laws to reduce it. The symposium included lectures delivered by Dr. Shehab Ahmed Al-Ezzi showed in it the factors that contribute to youth addiction to drugs represented by factors related to the individual himself, such as his desire to experiment, imitate bad friends, and the weakness of the religious preacher. Children excel, parents are preoccupied with children, and factors related to society represented by the role of the media and the weakness of the role of institutions The second lecture was given by Dr. Saadoun Haseeb Aref, who discussed the law in the Iraqi constitution, which stipulated the criminalization of abuse and the imposition of penalties according to Law No. 5 of 2017, as well as identifying the measures taken against drug abusers and traffickers. The Director of the Health Office presented Psychologist in the Kirkuk Health Department, Dr. Ayoub Abdel-Hamid Abdel-Wahhab, gave a lecture in which he explained the seriousness of this phenomenon and its impact on young people as the active force in building societies by presenting statistics showing an increase in the number of addicts among young people, as well as a lecture by Dr. Arjan in which he dealt with the definition of the term Addiction and drugs It extensively reviewed the classification of drugs and the effect of each type on the nervous system and the psychological, physical and personal aspects in general. He also referred to the stages of addiction and how to treat it from a medical point of view.
