The College of Science discussed a master's thesis tagged "Isolation and characterization of bacteria that cause skin infections in a group of young people under the age of 25 in the city of Kirkuk" by student Nour Raad Sawadi, and supervised by Prof. Asma Sami Afram Karumi. The study aimed to isolate the germs that cause skin infections in young people under the age group of 25 years in the city of Kirkuk and diagnose them using different laboratory methods, and study some of the associated risk factors such as age and gender, study the virulence factors of isolated bacteria and accurate molecular characterization of bacteria (P.acnes) by identifying the genes responsible for it. The study concluded the prevalence of P.acnes and (S.epidermidis) bacteria in skin infections, followed by bacteria (S.aureus, S.pyogenes), the highest infection rate recorded in females and within the group The results showed that bacterial isolates possess efflux pumps and the ability to form biofilms. The researcher recommended spreading health and cultural awareness among social groups of both sexes to reduce the spread of bacterial infection, and avoiding the excessive use of antibiotics to reduce the emergence of bacterial strains with multiple resistance.
