The College of Agriculture discussed a master's thesis on the effect of sources of organic fertilizers on the growth of three varieties of young palm trees, by the student Saad Yassin Sheikh, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Jassim Muhammad Khalaf.
The study aimed to improve the growth characteristics of three varieties of young palm trees and to know the effect of organic fertilizers on the varieties, and to find the best levels for each type of organic fertilizers, poultry waste and sheep waste, and to strengthen the shoots by improving the vegetative growth and chemical content of the shoot
The study concluded that adding organic fertilizers led to an improvement in the growth characteristics, quality and NPK concentration in the palm fronds, and poultry waste outperformed sheep waste in all the studied characteristics when added at the same level. As for the two-way interaction between the study factors, the three varieties, Khadrawi, Khastawi, and Shuwaithi Al-Asfar, differed in their response to organic fertilization with poultry and sheep waste, and the best results were at high levels of fertilizers with the three varieties
