Agriculture College Hosts Seminar on Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Challenges

Under the patronage of the respected President of the University of Kirkuk, Professor Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Ibrahim Ahmed, and the Head of the Horticulture and Landscape Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Kifaya Ghazi Saeed, the Horticulture and Landscape Engineering Department organized its advisory scientific seminar on sustainable agriculture and its environmental challenges. The event featured an external lecturer, Mr. Jed Majed Mahmood, Marketing and Sales Director of the French agricultural company HM Clause (Australia Branch), via video conference, and was attended by researchers and specialists in the agricultural field.

The seminar included three lectures delivered by the external lecturer, Dr. Haidar Bahjat Naseh, and Dr. Omar Shamil Mohammed. They aimed to demonstrate how to achieve a sustainable agricultural system free from chemical fertilizers and pesticides, balancing agricultural production with environmental preservation and natural resource conservation for future generations.

The seminar recommended:

  1. Promoting the use of modern technologies, rationalizing water consumption, improving soil properties, and reducing the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers.

  2. Encouraging biodiversity, reducing environmental pollution, and enhancing food security.

  3. Supporting policies that promote sustainable agriculture, raising agricultural awareness and education, and fostering partnerships between different sectors to achieve a sustainable agricultural system.
