The College of Agriculture at the University of Kirkuk has begun establishing Deciduous Fruit Orchard No. (2) with local genetic origins, to serve as a specialized orchard in Kirkuk Province and as an agricultural and research station for undergraduate students and practical field observations.

The Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Osamah Ibrahim Ahmed, explained that the project consists of two phases. The first phase involves preparing the orchard site and improving its soil, followed by the establishment of an orchard that includes planting several local deciduous fruit varieties. The orchard will serve as a specialized facility in Kirkuk Province, preserving local genetic resources, in addition to the existing orchard at the Agricultural Research and Experimental Station.

He added that the project will serve as a starting point for expanding green areas within the college, and will be followed by the creation of additional green spaces. The college also plans to establish a specialized nursery to support afforestation campaigns throughout Kirkuk Province.
