University of Kirkuk Sets a Plan for Sustainable Development

In pursuit of the University of Kirkuk, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in Kirkuk Governorate, after holding a series of joint meetings to develop a plan and goals for sustainable development by 2050, as well as an annual plan for carbon conservation by taking several measures, including:

  1. Purchasing devices for measuring greenhouse gases for the University of Kirkuk within international standards.
  2. Holding seminars and workshops at the university and their departments on sustainable development and climate change, and working on implementing its recommendations at the University and Kirkuk governorate.
  3. Increasing and improving green areas within the University with the afforestation campaign.
  4. Coordinating and cooperating with the governorate of Kirkuk, government institutions, the interested private sector, and civil society organizations in the field of sustainable development, benefiting from the expertise and capabilities available therein, and harnessing them for the benefit of University of Kirkuk and its departments.
  5. Oblige the environmental research unit at the University to submit periodic reports that include environmental complications and ways to improve them scientifically and practically.
  6. Requiring postgraduate students in specialized colleges to write theses and dissertations on topics related to improving the environment.
  7. Encouraging researchers from teaching staff and graduate students to write research articles in the field of environment and sustainable development to benefit in improving the environment at the University of Kirkuk and the governorate.
  8. Work to establish renewable energy in the University to be used instead of electric energy that operates using fossil fuels.
