A Master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, examined the effect of soil lime content and vermicompost application on selected physical and hydraulic properties of soil.
The thesis, submitted by Maram Khairallah Ahmed, aimed to study the effects of soil calcium carbonate content and vermicompost on selected physical and hydraulic properties of soil, as well as the effect of vermicompost application on the growth characteristics, yield, and water-use efficiency of faba bean grown in soils with different lime contents. The study also investigated the interaction between lime levels and vermicompost application and their effects on soil physical and hydraulic properties, as well as the growth and yield of faba bean.
The study concluded that the use of vermicompost improved water-use efficiency, with the 0.8% application level recording the highest water-use efficiency compared with the non-amended treatments. The seasonal water consumption of the faba bean crop reached 342.67 mm, through supplemental irrigation in addition to rainfall.
