In continuation of the work of the scientific interactive workshop towards a green Kirkuk by 2030, members of the Supreme Committee for improving the environmental reality in Kirkuk Governorate met, with the participation of representatives of relevant government departments.
Through their dialogue, the attendees stressed “the necessity of drawing up a joint action map between the governorate’s institutions and departments, in order to reach the goal, which is to afforest the entire Kirkuk governorate by 2030.”
The workshop came up with several recommendations, including: “launching a national afforestation campaign throughout Kirkuk Governorate, harnessing all the energies and capabilities of governmental and private departments and institutions to make the campaign a success, and announcing a national competition at the governorate level based on the rate of achieving afforestation as a criterion for comparison between administrative units in the governorate to stimulate afforestation operations, and disseminate the initiative.” With the participation of the central government and local administrations of the rest of the governorates to achieve an initiative towards a green Iraq by the year 2050, and working in cooperation with the university to determine a binding standard for planning authorities in Kirkuk Governorate to achieve the goal of sustainable development.
