The College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, in cooperation with Tharaa Al-Wa’i Organization for Development and Human Rights, organized an awareness seminar on social stigma and its psychological effects, with the attendance and participation of the College’s teaching staff, employees, and students.
The seminar aimed to explain the concept of social stigma, explore its psychological and social effects, and discuss ways to address it and reduce its impact, thereby promoting psychological awareness and fostering a supportive and understanding university environment.
The seminar featured a lecture delivered by Ms. Israa Mohammed Hassan, Head of Tharaa Al-Wa’i Organization for Development and Human Rights. She explained how stigma is created through the planting of ideas, noting that stigma does not necessarily arise from a characteristic itself, but rather from the negative meaning society assigns to that characteristic and the way it uses it to judge individuals.
