The researcher from the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, Dr. Hussein Abdullah Ahmed, in cooperation with researchers from the College of Agriculture, Ankara University and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry - Turkey, published scientific research in the Dutch international magazine Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, which is classified within the Clarivate and Scopus indexes.
The researcher explained that the study revealed noticeable differences in the morphological characteristics of the barley genotypes, specifically in the anthocyanins in flag leaves, spike shape, spike quantity, grain color, 50% flowering days, plant height, spike length, and the weight of a thousand grains. And other important agricultural characteristics.
The researcher stated that the results of the cluster analysis demonstrated the presence of diverse genetic resources within the group, with the identification of distinct groups of genetic patterns that showed similar characteristics. The results of agromorphological characterization are a valuable resource for researchers and breeders that will help them make informed decisions regarding the management and application of barley lines in plant breeding programmes.
