Kirkuk University discusses the evaluation of irrigation water quality for some groundwater wells

The College of Agriculture discussed a master's thesis on evaluating the quality of irrigation water for some groundwater wells in Kirkuk Governorate, by the student Asia Abdulqader Mohammed, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Dalshad Rasool Aziz.

The study aimed to evaluate the well water used for irrigation purposes by studying the variables determining the suitability of this water for irrigation, determining the suitability of this water for irrigating agricultural crops spread in the study area, and preparing spatial distribution maps to determine the suitability of groundwater for irrigation purposes using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology.

The study concluded that the concentrations of positive and negative ions are mostly within the permissible limits for irrigation according to the standards, except for phosphate, potassium, magnesium and nitrates, which exceeded the permissible limits by varying percentages. The results showed that all the well water studied is of very hard and medium hardness, and that a third of the area of the study area is medium in its content of dissolved solids (TDS).
