The College of Agriculture discussed a master's thesis on the assessment of groundwater pollution of some selected wells in Kirkuk Governorate, by the student Shahd Salam Khazal, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Dilshad Rasool Aziz.
The study aimed to assess the pollution of well water in the study area with chemical compounds, harmful ions and heavy elements, determine its suitability for drinking and irrigation purposes, and prepare spatial distribution maps of chemical compounds, ions and heavy elements in the study area using GIS techniques.
The study concluded that according to both indicators, the industrial pollution index SPl and the degree of pollution Cd, all the water of the study wells is unsuitable for drinking and irrigation and has a high degree of pollution with heavy elements, and that when using the Gibbs diagram, the chemical concentration of groundwater in the study area is within the dominance of carbonate dolomite rocks.
