A Master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, discussed “The Development of a Soil Database and Agro-Ecological Mapping of Kirkuk Governorate” submitted by the student Faris Hamir Abdulaziz.

The study aimed to establish a comprehensive soil database for Kirkuk Governorate and to prepare agro-ecological maps that can support agricultural planning and sustainable land management in the region.

The study concluded that the digital soil database of Kirkuk Governorate revealed significant spatial variation in both physical and chemical soil properties. This variation was found to be closely associated with topography, parent material, and the prevailing climatic conditions of the governorate. The study also identified nine distinct agro-ecological zones within Kirkuk, differing in climate characteristics, landforms, land cover, soil properties, geological composition, and hydrological conditions. These findings provide valuable information for improving agricultural development strategies and optimizing land-use planning in the governorate.
