Under the patronage of the respected President of Kirkuk University, Prof. Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Osamah Ibrahim Ahmed, the Afforestation Unit at the College organized a workshop on the role of afforestation in preserving the environment and the types of trees suitable for Kirkuk Governorate, with the attendance and participation of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Abdulrahim Mohammed, and the members and students of the College.
The head of the Afforestation Unit at the College, Ms. Umaima Abdul Samad Hassan, explained through a lecture she gave the importance of the role of afforestation in preserving the environment and reducing environmental pollution in general and global warming in particular, and the foundations, rules and steps of urban afforestation and the most important types of trees suitable for cultivation in Kirkuk Governorate Acacia - Asr - Paulownia - Albizia - Bauhinia - Cypress and others.
The workshop recommended the necessity of planting perennial trees that have a high ability to withstand local environmental conditions and are characterized by rapid growth and permanent greenery, in addition to enacting laws that prevent the clearing of green spaces and encouraging young people to activate initiatives to expand the scope of afforestation in various state institutions, in addition to increasing the number of permanent agricultural maintenance workers in the secretariats and municipalities and raising the efficiency of agricultural technicians in service departments in line with the tasks assigned to them.
