Dr. Saad Abdul-Majeed Waheeb, a lecturer at the College of Agriculture, University of Kirkuk, has published a scientific paper in the high-impact journal BMC Plant Biology, which is indexed in both Scopus and Clarivate.

The researcher explained that his study focused on a meta-transcriptomic analysis of water stress–responsive regulatory genes in tomato plants. The research involved an advanced genetic analysis of expression patterns under water stress conditions in tomatoes, using RNA-seq technology and data from GEO NCBI, aiming to identify genes responsible for drought resistance and enhance the plant’s adaptive capacity in harsh environmental conditions.

He added that the research team, through a comprehensive meta-transcriptomic data analysis, identified 18 drought-responsive genes with high statistical significance (p < 0.05). These genes represent a set of vital genes involved in cellular signaling, protein synthesis, and lateral root regulation, opening new horizons for improving drought-tolerant tomato varieties through modern breeding programs.
