In the spirit of inter-agency cooperation, and as part of the Legal Division's activities, a workshop titled "The Role of Transparency in Combating and Preventing Corruption—in Accordance with the Federal Commission of Integrity and Illicit Gain Law No. 30 of 2011" was organized in collaboration with the Investigations Department of the Federal Commission of Integrity. The event was attended by the College Dean, Prof. Dr. Shahad Abbas Al-Attar, along with deputy deans, staff members, and students.
The workshop featured a lecture by Investigator Rebwar Huwaiz Qadir, who defined transparency and its key components, as well as the legal foundations underpinning the Commission of Integrity. He linked the Iraqi transparency initiative to the public disclosure of the Commission’s and the federal government’s activities, analyzing Articles 26 and 27 of the Commission’s law. He also provided a detailed explanation of financial disclosure as a fundamental tool for achieving transparency and integrity. Furthermore, the lecturer addressed the 2003 United Nations Convention regarding the international dimensions of transparency binding upon Iraq, highlighting the challenges the Commission faces due to the absence of legislation on the "Right to Access Information," as well as potential remedies. He concluded by recommending the organization of intensive workshops to explain the mechanisms for implementing decisions related to anti-corruption, integrity, and transparency.
