Prof. Dr. Shahd Abbas Al-Attar, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, participated in the discussion committee of the doctoral thesis at the College of Science, University of Kirkuk, entitled “Biomanufacture of Zirconium Oxide (ZrO₂) Nanoparticles as a Potential Treatment Against Protoscolices of Echinococcus granulosus” by researcher Muhammad Mahmoud Shaker. The study aimed to manufacture zirconium oxide nanoparticles bio-based using Tribulus terrestris extract, characterize them physicochemically, and evaluate their lethal efficacy against protoscolices of the parasite under in vitro and in vivo conditions. It also aimed to investigate their immunological effect and biosafety compared to the reference drug (albendazole). The results showed a distinct therapeutic efficacy of the synthesized nanoparticles, with the absence of signs of hepatotoxicity or systemic toxicity, which qualifies them as a promising candidate in the development of innovative nanotherapies against hydatid disease.
