The Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Dr. Shahd Abbas Ali, participated in the discussion committee for a master’s thesis by the student Enas Nizar Abboud, within the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Diyala, about her thesis entitled Verification of coniferous disease infection in humans and cattle. The study included a discussion of identifying the types of conifer parasites spread in local beef in Diyala Governorate, by using traditional, serological, and partial diagnostic techniques. Taking into account the polymerase chain reaction (Pcr) and genetic sequence analysis, the results showed that the rate of infection with conifer disease in slaughtered cows reached 65%. The results also showed that male cows recorded the highest rate of infection, reaching 75% compared to females. The study revealed the recording of a new type of parasite in Iraq for the first time, Sarcocystis Levinei, using isolates from several countries including Norway, China, Turkey, India, Japan, Argentina and Iran. This study is the first of its kind in Iraq to show that humans are infected with conifer disease using the Elisa technique, with an infection rate of 15.28% in the city of Baqubah, a rate of 34.48% for men, and a rate of 6.34% for women.
