The College of Veterinary Medicine held a discussion session entitled Veterinary Drug Interventions and Tips to Avoid Them, in the presence of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Adeeb Agha, and the College's members and students. The session included a lecture given by Prof. Dr. Qasim Sakran Abbas, in which he addressed the interaction that occurs between two or more drugs when used together at the same time as a medical prescription to treat animals, which may result in the lack of guaranteed results for treatment and a lack of pharmacological effect or the formation of a more effective compound that harms the animal, adding that using each type of prescribed drugs separately as part of the treatment for the disease avoids the occurrence of serious drug complications and the appearance of side effects. The lecturer recommended the necessity of raising the level of awareness among veterinarians with the aim of reducing the risks of dispensing drugs and medical treatments for diseased animals, taking into account drug interactions when giving more than one treatment at a time or drug interactions that occur as a result of giving a drug with a specific type of food.
