About the college

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kirkuk University was established in the 2013-2014 academic year. Its aim was to prepare specialized scientific personnel in veterinary medicine who would contribute to preventing animal diseases, diagnosing diseases when they occur, and treating them to preserve and develop livestock and increase its productivity. These specialized personnel would also play a role in serving the community in the field of public health, particularly in combating zoonotic diseases transmitted from animals to humans through food. The college welcomed its first cohort of students in the 2013-2014 academic year. The language of instruction is English, and one of the college's unique features is that the top student in the first year transfers to the College of Pharmacy or Dentistry. Five cohorts have graduated since its establishment. During their five years of study, students receive instruction in various veterinary medical sciences, qualifying them to obtain a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery degree. The college comprises eight scientific departments, and its objectives center on graduating veterinarians capable of providing veterinary health services that serve the public health of both humans and animals, developing livestock through advanced veterinary education, and conducting scientific research that reaches international standards. The college also aspires to offer postgraduate studies in the future to train specialized scientific personnel in veterinary medicine.
