About the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Obstetrics

The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Obstetrics is one of the most important clinical departments established at the college. It teaches veterinary surgery to fourth- and fifth-year students, as well as veterinary obstetrics and reproductive diseases in various farm animals. Practical and clinical lessons are provided to undergraduate students through various surgical procedures and examinations on farm animals at our college's animal farm. The department strives to be a leading department in research and teaching among its counterparts in Iraqi veterinary colleges. It conducts joint scientific research with other basic and clinical departments at the forefront of veterinary medical science research, such as physiology and internal medicine. The department also provides a high-level teaching and learning environment for undergraduate students. It actively participates with other basic and clinical veterinary medical science departments to exchange expertise in areas of common interest. The staff of the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Obstetrics is committed to collaborative work and research with highly qualified individuals, and to providing the necessary resources to facilitate scientific research and learning. The department's teaching of surgery, obstetrics, and reproductive technologies relies on highly experienced and qualified faculty members with excellent teaching and research credentials. Teaching utilizes specimens of male and female animal reproductive systems, along with necessary equipment to illustrate scientific lessons. The department's teaching staff keeps pace with the standards of other Arab and international universities. The department aims to impart scientific knowledge to students, enabling them to examine animals from a reproductive perspective and achieve accurate and precise diagnoses.

The Surgery and Obstetrics Department is equipped with an operating room for small animals, as well as covered areas for examining larger animals and performing all necessary treatments. It also includes a dedicated radiology and ultrasound room. Within its premises, the department houses specimens and models of reproductive systems from various animals, along with embryos prepared by the department's staff using specialized methods to facilitate their study.
