About the Public Health Department

This department was established at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Kirkuk, on February 19, 2015. The Veterinary Public Health Department is a distinguished academic institution within the College of Veterinary Medicine, dedicated to providing scientific services and graduating qualified personnel who play an active role in monitoring quarantine facilities at border crossings with neighboring countries. This ensures the control of animal diseases and food entering the country, contributing to the health and food security of the community. Furthermore, its faculty members participate in committees, studies, conferences, seminars, and scientific research related to zoonotic diseases and their treatment.

The department aspires to become a locally and internationally accredited scientific institution, striving for leadership and excellence in providing community health services based on sound scientific principles

Mission:

In accordance with the mission of the college and the university, the department is committed to preparing distinguished and competent veterinarians capable of meeting the community's needs in the field of public health and possessing the ability to conduct scientific research to solve community health problems through monitoring meat and dairy products produced in slaughterhouses, stations, and dairy processing plants. The Public Health Department's core tasks are based on three pillars: 1. The Educational Process: Providing an excellent learning environment for students and equipping them with the knowledge to develop their intellectual level and abilities, thus preparing them to be responsible members of society. 2. Scientific Research: Promoting scientific research through the participation of faculty members and students in conducting research in the field of public health and disseminating knowledge to contribute to the development of the local community. 3. Community Service: Strengthening relationships with government agencies that benefit from their expertise by presenting basic and applied research, as well as holding scientific seminars and lectures both within and outside the department.

Objectives:
1. To provide a database on various methods of animal and bird care.

2. To improve the use of modern technology in the educational process.

3. Establish a specialized unit for poultry and bird production.

4. Conduct awareness seminars for breeders and farm owners on how to address challenges.

5. Publish scientific research in international journals with high impact factors.

6. Gradually eliminate epidemic and zoonotic diseases that damage the national economy.
