The Student Activities Division—specifically the Cultural Unit—at the College of Media has released an informative brochure highlighting methods to distinguish between the Arabic letters *Ḍād* (ض) and *Ẓāʾ* (ظ) in both pronunciation and writing. The initiative targets the college’s students as well as its academic and administrative staff.
This release is part of a series of educational and linguistic activities undertaken by the Cultural Unit to promote linguistic correctness and enhance written and oral skills—aligning with the demands of media work, which requires precision in phrasing and accurate pronunciation.
The brochure provides a technical explanation of the articulation points for both letters: the *Ḍād* is articulated by pressing one of the tongue's edges against the adjacent upper molars, whereas the *Ẓāʾ* is articulated by placing the tip of the tongue against the edges of the upper front teeth. It also outlines the spelling rules used to differentiate between the two, identifies common errors, lists words that sound similar but differ in meaning, and provides a reference list of words spelled with the letter *Ẓāʾ*.
Professor Dr. Maad Assi Ali, Dean of the College of Media, confirmed that the brochure is available in both print and digital formats. He encouraged students and staff to utilize its content to improve the accuracy of their writing and pronunciation, particularly in correspondence and in journalistic or academic reports.
