We are living in an era of media and open information—a time marked by transformative and rapid developments driven by communication technologies. There is a strong and interdependent relationship between media and knowledge. As one of the vital departments within the university, the Journalism Department plays a significant role in nurturing outstanding professional talents capable of shaping ideas, meeting the knowledge needs of society, and promoting the values of justice, awareness, and a culture of integration within a unifying national identity rooted in the constitution, law, ethics, and human traditions.

About the Department
The Journalism Department was established for the academic year 2024-2025 based on the administrative order issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, No. T M 3 / 6894 on 25/07/2024. The department accepts graduates of the preparatory stage from both the scientific and literary branches. Additionally, media professionals with at least five years of practical experience in media are eligible to apply, provided they hold a secondary school diploma from vocational schools (Industrial, Commercial, Agricultural, or Teacher Training Institutes) or Fine Arts Institutes.
The duration of the study is four years, after which graduates are awarded a Bachelor's degree in Media, equivalent to the degrees granted in this field by public colleges and universities.

To produce media professionals with high competence and skills, capable of meeting the demands of the local and national job market while keeping pace with technological and media advancements. Our goal is to enable them to actively contribute to the development of society.
Department Mission
The department strives to deliver academic and educational content in the most effective ways, enabling students to acquire modern scientific and media skills that foster creativity and excellence. The mission of the department can be summarized as follows:
- To prepare graduates who are well-equipped both academically and professionally by providing them with a strong foundation in the fundamentals of journalism, its duties, and best practices, while also developing their skills in scientific research and its principles within the field of media studies, thus preparing them to become future researchers.
- To support and motivate faculty members and students in the area of scientific research, in alignment with modern and scientific methodologies, and to apply these studies for the benefit of society.
- To offer expert advice to the community and state institutions within the department's area of expertise.

The Department Council undertakes the following responsibilities:
- Recommending the department's needs for faculty members, lecturers, and inviting visiting media professionals.
- Forming scientific, examination, and advisory committees according to the department's requirements.
- Implementing decisions referred by the University or College Council.
- Discussing curricula and course content, monitoring scientific developments, and guiding the teaching staff to update and improve the academic programs.
- Overseeing teaching methods, evaluating the performance of the department's teaching staff, and proposing plans to train and develop both the academic and administrative staff of the department.

Department Head Responsibilities
Achieving the university's overarching goals and policies.
- Implementing the decisions of the College Council concerning the department.
- Overseeing the preparation and execution of the department's strategic plan.
- Supervising the management of the department's educational, research, administrative, financial, and cultural affairs.
- Supervising the administrative, academic, and research development of the department.
- Performing assigned teaching duties each semester.
- Monitoring student attendance and conducting theoretical and practical exams.
- Coordinating and fostering relationships within and outside the university.
- Ensuring the provision of all educational, research, administrative, and financial requirements for the department.
- Supervising the enhancement of quality standards and improving department outcomes.
- Implementing and following up on the decisions of the department council.
- Exercising delegated authority as authorized by the Dean of the College.
- Reporting to the Dean on any faculty member's breach of duties or other violations.
- Conducting periodic reviews and evaluations to develop the department's curricula and presenting them to the College Council.
- Hosting external lecturers to deliver lectures on specific topics for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Overseeing the teaching process, teaching methods, and faculty members' fulfillment of their duties.
- Preparing periodic scientific reports on the department's activities.
- Presenting research to scientific committees for support and promotion purposes.
- Assigning students to training sites and supervising them through department members, including issuing administrative orders as necessary.
- Proposing administrative orders for sabbaticals and additional lectures based on actual needs, in line with applicable university regulations and after College Council approval.
- Supervising students' academic affairs across all study levels.
- Proposing experts for evaluating academic promotions within the department.
- Assigning faculty members teaching tasks as needed, regardless of set limits imposed by higher authorities.
- Approving faculty participation in teaching programs or courses for other departments.
- Approving the nomination of faculty members for participation in technical, administrative, and scientific committees.
- Directing inquiries to faculty members regarding absences or delays in delivering lectures and addressing them accordingly.
- Chairing the department's scientific committee.
- Communicating with other university departments, corresponding departments at Iraqi universities, and the Technical Institutes Authority regarding academic and teaching matters or selecting lecturers and obtaining necessary approvals while informing the College Dean.
- Issuing administrative orders concerning the department's academic affairs after obtaining Dean's approval, based on scientific authorities.
- Determining the department's needs for faculty, technical, and administrative staff.
- Proposing enrollment plans, including capacity and admission criteria, for the department.
- Recommending approval of final exam results for department students and following up on their academic progress.
- Assigning courses to faculty members in the department.
- Preparing and submitting the department's academic and exam schedules to the College Dean.
- Holding meetings with department students at least once per semester to identify their needs, challenges, and suggestions, providing solutions, and submitting recommendations to the Dean if needed.
- Preparing performance evaluation reports for faculty and administrative staff and submitting them to the College Dean.
- Supervising academic advising processes in the department and assigning students to faculty advisors.
- Reviewing and equating courses for students transferring from other majors or universities.
- Considering excuses submitted by students for absences from lectures or exams.

Second: Duties of the Department Secretary
- Acting on behalf of the Head of Department in specific authorized tasks, including overseeing the organization of departmental affairs.
- Implementing and following up on decisions made by the Department Council and the Head of Department when required.
- Assisting the Head of Department in preparing periodic and annual scientific reports related to the department's activities.
- Supporting the Head of Department in supervising students' academic affairs across all levels of study.
- Submitting memos to the Head of Department regarding any violations of duties by students or department staff or in cases of other infractions.
- Submitting memos detailing the department's needs for academic, technical, and administrative staff to meet operational requirements.
- Assisting the Head of Department in allocating teaching assignments to faculty members within the department.
- Preparing class schedules and examination timetables for the department and ensuring their proper organization.
- Determining teaching loads and calculating lecture fees for internal and external lecturers.
- Monitoring students' adherence to university regulations, including compliance with the uniform dress code, and recommending dismissal decisions for students who exceed the permissible absence rates as per applicable regulations.
ثالثاً: مهام اللجنة الامتحانية
- ١. تطبيق التعليمات والضوابط والتوجيهات الصادرة عن الوزارة والجامعة ومجلس الكلية واللجنة الامتحانية المركزية بشأن الامتحانات والسجلات الامتحانية.
- ٢. عمل اللجنة الفرعية يكون تحت إشراف مباشر من السيد العميد.
- ٣. قابلية تشكيلات اللجان الامتحانية للتغيير سنوياً بناءً على المستجدات.
- ٤. تقوم اللجنة الامتحانية الفرعية بالمهام الآتية:
- - تنظيم القاعات الامتحانية وتوزيع الطلبة عليها لضمان سير الامتحانات بشكل سليم.
- - إعداد قوائم بأسماء الطلبة مع التأشير على حالات الرسوب، الغياب، العبور، والتأجيلات بدقة.
- - استلام درجات السعي بعد إعلانها من القسم.
- - استلام الأسئلة الامتحانية في صباح يوم الامتحان.
- - توزيع الدفاتر الامتحانية على القاعات واستلامها بعد انتهاء الامتحان، مع التأكد من ختمها بختم الكلية.
- - رفع أسماء الطلبة ووضع الأرقام السرية على أغلفة الدفاتر الامتحانية، وإعادة لصقها بعد الانتهاء من عملية التصحيح والتدقيق.
- - تشكيل لجان تصحيح الدفاتر وتدقيقها من ذوي الاختصاص داخل القسم، على أن يُصحح أستاذ المادة ما لا يقل عن - سؤالين إذا كانت الأسئلة (٥) أو أكثر، وسؤالاً واحداً إذا كانت أقل من ذلك.
- - تثبيت الدرجات على الدفاتر الامتحانية وإعداد قوائم خاصة بكل مادة، ثم تدقيقها نهائياً وإدخالها في سجل الدرجات مع ترقيم الصفحات ومنع أي تعديل أو محو.
- - حفظ الدرجات الامتحانية إلكترونياً ضمن برنامج خاص باللجنة، مع الاحتفاظ بالنتائج النهائية على أقراص (CD) لضمان سلامتها من التلف.
- - رفع نتائج الامتحانات إلى السيد العميد للمصادقة عليها تمهيداً للإعلان.
- - إعلان النتائج الامتحانية للدورين الأول والثاني.
- - استلام اعتراضات الطلبة على نتائجهم الامتحانية والنظر فيها خلال مدة أقصاها (٥) أيام.
- - في حالة ثبوت الغش أو سوء التصرف داخل القاعة الامتحانية، فللجنة أن توصي بفصل الطالب أو رسوبه وفقاً للتعليمات النافذة.
رابعاً: مهام اللجنة العلمية
- ١. النظر في الطلبات والمقترحات المقدمة من أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية في القسم بشأن تعديل المناهج، بما يشمل الإضافة أو الحذف وفقاً للنسبة المحددة في التعليمات، والبتّ بها.
- ٢. إقرار مفردات المواضيع الدراسية ومتابعة تنفيذ المناهج الدراسية وعدد الوحدات المقررة للدراسات الأولية.
- ٣. متابعة الحركة العلمية داخل القسم ووضع خطط لتطويرها بما يحقق التميز الأكاديمي.
- ٤. تسجيل ومتابعة النشاط البحثي لجميع التدريسيين والمنتسبين في القسم لضمان تحقيق الأهداف البحثية.
- ٥. تنظيم وفتح دورات تطويرية داخل القسم، وترشيح منتسبي القسم للمشاركة في الدورات التطويرية خارج القسم.
- ٦. دراسة إمكانية عقد المؤتمرات العلمية، الندوات، الحلقات الدراسية، وورش العمل، وتقديم التوصيات اللازمة لعقدها.
- ٧. مراجعة الكتب المنهجية المستخدمة في القسم، وتقديم مقترحات لتحديثها بما يتماشى مع أحدث التطورات العلمية.

الية قبول الطلبة في البرنامج
يعتبر الطالب مسجلا بصورة نظامية بعد صدور أمر اداري بقبوله في احد اقسام كليات الجامعة وتسديدة للأجور الدراسية حيث يقوم الطالب بملئ استمارة التقديم وحسب شروط القبول لكل قسم ورفق جميع المستمسكات المطلوبة ومن ثم رفع البيانات بعد التأكد من صحتها وسلامتها من قبل موظفي وحدة التسجيل ما الطلبة من الاعلاميين يكون تقديم الطالب على قناة الاعلاميين عن طريق الاستمارة الالكترونية الخاصة بهذه القناة وتحميل كتاب تأييد الخدمة المشار اليه انها على ان يقوم الطالب بمراجعة النقابة مصطحبا معه كتاب التأييد اضافة إلى تأييد الدرجات للتأكد ان الطالب حاصل على شهادة الدراسة الاعدادية أو ما يعادلها والمستمسكات التعريفية ليتم المصادقة على استمارة تفعيل قناة الاعلاميين من قبل نقابة الصحفيين.
شروط قبول الطلبة في القسم
- خريجو الدراسة الإعدادية للفروع العلمي والادبي بمعدل تحدد من قبل الوزارة للدراسة الصباحية والمسائي.
- يسمح أيضا للإعلاميين التقديم في حال كان لديه خدمة ) 5 ( سنوات فعليه في مؤسسات اعلامية معترف بها من الجهات المختصة )حصرا( من خريجي فروع الدراسة المهنية كافة معاهد المعلمين معاهد الفنون الجميلة التقديم ضمن قناة الاعلاميين ولا يحق للطلبة خريجو الدراسات الإسلامية والمدارس التابعة للوقفين السني والشيعي ( ومعاهد السياحة والفندقة التقديم لهذه القناة .
- يجلب الطالب كتاب تأييد مصدق من الجهات الاعلامية التي يعمل فيها حصرا ليتم تصديقة من قبل نقابة الصحفيين أو هيئة الاعلام والاتصالات أو شبكة الاعلام العراقي .
الية توزيع الطلبة على الصفوف
يوزع الطلبة على الصفوف والقاعات بحسب المرحلة الدراسية ونوع الدراسة (صباحي او مسائي) مع الاخذ بنظر الاعتبار عدد الطلاب على أن لا يزيد عدد الطلبة في الصف الواحد عن 50 طالب.
آلية إجراء الامتحانات والتقييم للبرنامج
خلال سنوات الدراسة في الكلية، يُطلب من الطلبة اجتياز العديد من الامتحانات التي تُمكنهم من الانتقال من سنة دراسية إلى أخرى، وتنتهي بتخرجهم وحصولهم على شهادة البكالوريوس في الإعلام. يتم تقييم الطلبة وفقاً للآتي:
أولاً: الامتحانات الشهرية واليومية
- يتم تقييم الطلبة خلال الفصل الدراسي أو العام الدراسي من خلال إجراء امتحانات شهرية ويومية تحددها الهيئة التدريسية بالتنسيق مع الطلبة ورئاسة القسم.
- تُحتسب النشاطات الصفية واللاصفية التي يكلف بها الطلبة ضمن درجة التقييم النهائية.
- تُجمع درجة التقييم (درجة السعي السنوي) بنسبة 40% أو 50% أو 60%، حسب طبيعة المادة، ويتم الإعلان عنها قبل الامتحانات النهائية.
- تُمنح الأقسام العلمية والمدرسين صلاحية إجراء اختبارات إضافية لتحسين نتائج الطلبة عند وجود أي تلكؤ في مادة معينة، مع تقدير الوزن الخاص لهذا الاختبار وفقاً لتقدير التدريسي.
- تُعرض نتائج الامتحانات على الطلبة لمراجعتها، ويُقدم لهم الحل النموذجي للاستفادة وتصحيح الأخطاء.
ثانياً: الامتحان النهائي
- يشكل الامتحان النهائي 60% من الدرجة النهائية في المواد التي تحتوي على جوانب عملية.
- يُجرى الامتحان وفق جدول محدد يتم الاتفاق عليه بالتشاور مع الطلبة.
- تُستخدم دفاتر امتحانية خاصة ومختومة من قبل اللجان الامتحانية، وتُسلم إلى مدرس المادة بعد حجب أسماء الطلبة لتصحيحها.
- تُصحح الدفاتر من قبل التدريسي وتُسلم إلى اللجان الامتحانية، حيث يتم جمع درجة السعي السنوي مع درجة الامتحان النهائي.
- تُعلن النتائج النهائية لكل مادة بعد عرضها على الطلبة.
توصيف عمل الخريج
