College of Nursing Conducts an Educational Field Visit to Al-Irada Center for Children's Rehabilitation

As part of its commitment to strengthening the connection between academic learning and practical field experience, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing, Professor Dr. Hiwa Sttar Salih, the Community Health Nursing Department at the College of Nursing, Kirkuk University, conducted an educational field visit to Al-Irada Specialized Center for the Rehabilitation of Children with Special Needs in Kirkuk on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

The visit was supervised by:

• Professor Dr. Hiwa Star Salih
• Assistant Professor Nashwan Nadhim Hassan
• Ms. Shahla Najm Al-Din
• Ms. Huraa Asaad Abbas

The visit aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to specialized nursing practice and to familiarize them with the operational procedures of rehabilitation centers. The program included:

• Observing clinical cases receiving care at the center.
• Learning about common psychological and mental health disorders among children.
• Identifying clinical signs and methods of assessing symptoms associated with these conditions.
• Exploring integrated nursing and healthcare strategies provided to children with special needs.

The visit concluded with several important recommendations, including:

• Increasing the frequency of field visits to specialized centers to enhance students’ practical experience.
• Strengthening collaboration with primary schools through awareness workshops for teachers on children's mental and psychological health.
• Emphasizing the importance of developing academic curricula to expand students’ knowledge and skills in caring for children with special needs.

This visit reflects the College of Nursing’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the practical component of nursing education and to prepare qualified nursing professionals capable of delivering specialized healthcare services and contributing effectively to community well-being.
