The Faculty of Media is holding a scientific seminar on the dangers of digital rumors.

The Continuing Education Division at the College of Media held an awareness seminar titled “Methods of Spreading Digital Rumors Using Artificial Intelligence and Their Impact on Society.” The seminar aimed to enhance media literacy among students and faculty, highlight the dangers of rumors generated or disseminated using artificial intelligence technologies across digital platforms, and explore ways to mitigate their spread.

The seminar addressed the concept of digital rumors, their production and circulation mechanisms on social media, and the role of artificial intelligence tools in crafting misleading content and manipulating images, audio, and video clips. It also covered key methods for verifying information and distinguishing misleading news from reliable content, emphasizing the importance of media and ethical responsibility in handling information before republishing it.

The Dean of the College of Media, Professor Dr. Muad Assi Ali, stressed the importance of promoting a culture of digital verification, identifying content created or modified using artificial intelligence, and avoiding reliance on unreliable materials. This, he emphasized, contributes to curbing the spread of rumors and protecting society from their negative effects.

This seminar comes as part of the efforts of the Continuing Education Division at the College of Media to spread media and digital awareness, and to enhance students’ skills in dealing consciously and responsibly with the content being circulated, as well as to raise their level of awareness of the challenges posed by artificial intelligence technologies in the digital environment.
