Discussion of a master's thesis at the College of Engineering, University of Kirkuk

Discussion of a master's thesis in the College of Engineering at the University of Kirkuk on the use of spatial analysis to improve soil properties using glass powder
By the grace of God, a master's thesis was discussed for the student Sirwa Qadir Ali Omar in the College of Engineering at the University of Kirkuk, Department of Civil Engineering, entitled: "Using spatial analysis to simulate the effect of waste on the geotechnical and rheological properties of drilling mud". Supervised by  Prof. Dr. Aram Muhammad Rahim and Dr. Najat Qadir Omar, lecturers at the College of Engineering at our university.

The study dealt with building a reliable database for soil in the city of Kirkuk using the Geographic Information System (GIS). Soil samples were collected from 12 different sites in the city to conduct geotechnical and rheological tests. The thesis also focused on studying the effect of adding glass powder to soil to improve its geotechnical and rheological properties.

The study concluded that most of the soils in the study area are classified as sandy soils according to the Unified Soil Classification System.
The results also showed a significant increase in the angle of internal friction and cohesion when adding varying percentages of glass powder (6%, 10%, 20%). The percentage of increase in the angle of internal friction reached 232%, and in cohesion reached 697% at 6% of glass powder.

As for the rheological properties, significant increases in shear stress and plastic viscosity were observed with a decrease in the yield point.

The discussion committee consisted of a number of specialized professors, namely:
• Asst. Prof. Dr. Adnan Jaid Zidane / Tikrit University / College of Engineering / Chairman.
• Asst. Prof. Dr. Majid Hussein Hamad / Kirkuk University / College of Engineering / Member.
• Asst. Prof. Dr. Omar Muhyiddin Taha / Kirkuk University / College of Engineering / Member.
•. Prof. Dr. Aram Mohammed Rahim / Kirkuk University / College of Engineering / Member and Chief Supervisor.
• Prof. Dr. Najat Qader Omar / University of Kirkuk / College of Engineering / Member and Secondary Supervisor.
It is worth noting that the discussion took place on Wednesday, 11/27/2024, in the discussion hall of the College of Engineering. The student obtained a master's degree with honors and a recommendation to publish the scientific results in specialized journals.
The College of Engineering congratulates the student on this achievement and wishes her further progress and success in her academic career.
