Prof. Dr. Chelang Akram Omar, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Kirkuk, received a high-level delegation from Wood, a British consultancy and engineering design company headquartered in Basra. The company serves as a consulting partner on projects with the global energy corporation British Petroleum (BP). The delegation was headed by Mr. Carey, Wood’s Executive Director in Iraq, and included a number of senior engineering consultants.

The visit aimed to explore avenues of collaboration between the two parties, particularly in recruiting outstanding graduates from various engineering departments at the college, as well as supporting practical training programs for students and offering potential employment opportunities for top-performing candidates within the company.

During the visit, the company also announced its plan to launch a specialized engineering academy at its new headquarters. This initiative is intended to enhance the technical and engineering skills of young professionals and contribute to the development of the engineering sector in Iraq.

It is worth mentioning that Wood is currently preparing to launch new projects in Kirkuk Province in cooperation with North Oil Company and BP, and is expected to resume its operations in the region in the coming months.
