College of Engineering at Kirkuk University organizes an educational seminar on reducing suicide cases in society
Under the patronage of the President of Kirkuk University, Prof. Dr. Imran Jamal Hassan, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Jalnak Akram Omar, the College of Engineering at Kirkuk University, in cooperation with the Educational Guidance Unit and the Women's Affairs Unit, organized an educational seminar entitled "Reducing Suicide Cases in Our Societies, Its Dimensions and Implications". This seminar came within the framework of the efforts made by the university to raise awareness of the dangers of suicide and its repercussions on society, especially in light of the social and psychological challenges facing individuals.
The seminar was presented by Eng. Saba Fadhel Ali / Lecturer from the Department of Electrical Engineering, who addressed the technical and psychological dimensions of this phenomenon, and Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Nemat Amin from the Community Police, who shed light on the security and community efforts made to reduce this phenomenon and its impact on public security.
The seminar addressed several main topics, including:
1. Psychological and social causes of suicide: The psychological and social pressures that may push individuals to think about suicide were highlighted.
2. Legal and social implications: Presenter Ahmed Nemat presented the role played by community police in dealing with these cases, and how to support individuals at risk.

3. The role of society in prevention: The importance of community awareness and the role of the family and educational institutions in providing psychological and social support was emphasized.

The symposium was held on Sunday, 20-10-2024, at 10:00 am in the discussion hall for graduate students at the College of Engineering. The symposium was attended by a number of faculty members and students, in addition to representatives from the local community and community police.

This symposium aims to raise awareness about the seriousness of the phenomenon of suicide and ways to prevent it, and to enhance the role of society in providing support to individuals facing psychological challenges. The attendees stressed the importance of continuing such educational events that contribute to addressing sensitive societal issues.

At the end of the symposium, the floor was opened for discussion to the attendees to exchange views and experiences, and a general invitation was extended to attend such events in the future to enhance community awareness.
