The College of Basic Education organized a scientific workshop titled "Language Between the Ancients and the Moderns: Its Concept and Sources," presented by Dr. Khudair Abbas Ibrahim. The workshop discussed the differences between the concept of language among ancient scholars and modern studies, highlighting the evolution that has occurred in the sources of language study. The lecturer reviewed the sources relied upon by the ancients, such as literary texts and oral transmission, in contrast to modern sources that include phonetic analysis, structural studies, and the use of technology in linguistics. The workshop also discussed how these differences affect the understanding and teaching of language, emphasizing the importance of linking the ancient and modern approaches to enrich linguistic research.
