Based on the importance of the Department of Economics within the departments of the College of Administration and Economics and the absence of such a department at the University of Kirkuk, a study was prepared about opening this department by the staff of the College of Administration and Economics, and in light of it, the department was opened and students began to be accepted starting from the academic year 2015-2016, with thirty students in Morning study in the first year, and the department’s first class graduated in the 2018-2019 academic year.

Keeping pace with developments in economic sciences, acquiring skills, and applying economic theories to practical reality by preparing specialized scientific cadres with the ability to implement these skills in the fields of administrative and economic work, using the best available resources and within an ethical and creative environment.

The department seeks an economic understanding of the relationship between the individual and the environment in order to adapt the current reality of society to the available capabilities and societal requirements.
