Professor Dr. Ni'ma Ali Ahmad, a faculty member from the Department of Life Sciences at the College of Science, University of Kirkuk, participated in the defense committee for a master's thesis at the University of Tikrit. The thesis, titled "The Effect of Giardiasis on the Levels of Some Biomarkers in Children", was presented by student Muhannad Shihab Ali.
The defense took place in the discussion hall of the Department of Life Sciences at Tikrit University, where Dr. Ni'ma provided insights into the study. The research focused on diagnosing Giardia parasite infection in children suffering from diarrhea and gastrointestinal symptoms, treated at various public hospitals and private clinics in Salah al-Din Governorate.
Using both microscopic and molecular diagnostic techniques, the study identified the Giardia species and its subtypes, while examining the effects of certain biomarkers, including Heat Shock Protein 70, Trefoil Factor 3, and the hormones Ghrelin and Melatonin. These biomarkers were compared between infected children and a healthy control group.
Dr. Ni'ma confirmed that the thesis was well-received by the defense committee, and the student was awarded a master's degree in parasitology.
