The Dean of the College of Nursing congratulates a faculty member for obtaining a patent.

The Dean of the College of Nursing, Professor Dr. Hiwa Sttar Salih, extended his congratulations to Assistant Professor Dr. Lima Tariq Yoash, faculty member at the College of Nursing and Head of the Basic Sciences Branch, on the occasion of obtaining a patent from the Ministry of Planning / Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control. The patent is entitled:

“Treatment of Amoebic Dysentery by Neutralizing the Genes of Certain Virulence Factors of Entamoeba histolytica and Repairing Histological Changes Using Biologically Synthesized Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) Nanoparticles Prepared with Phycocyanin Pigment.”

The patent involved the neutralization of specific virulence-factor genes of Entamoeba histolytica, including Active Cysteine Proteinase and Galactose (Gal)/N-acetyl-D-galactosamine Lectin, using four different concentrations of biologically synthesized titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO₂ NPs) prepared with phycocyanin pigment.

The results demonstrated the ability of these nanoparticles to inhibit the parasite’s virulence factors by neutralizing the genes encoding them. This was confirmed using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique with gene-specific primers. The study also revealed the effective role of these nanoparticles in restoring the normal cellular architecture, as evidenced by histological examinations.

This achievement represents a significant addition to the College of Nursing’s record of scientific accomplishments. In recognition of her distinguished scientific contributions, the College Deanery honored Assistant Professor Dr. Lima Tariq Yoash with a Letter of Appreciation and a commemorative gift in acknowledgment of her outstanding academic and research efforts
