Sustainable environmental project
The Director of the Environmental Research Unit joined the environmental courses and seminars of the International Study of Dutch Universities for the Nuffic project. As a result of these activities, initial cooperation took place with an international non-governmental organization to establish a sustainable environmental project in Kirkuk. The Director of the Environmental Research Unit, Dr. Abdul Amir Hussein Qasim, sent the environmental research project to the director of Save the Children in Iraq, and after several correspondences, initial approval was given to fund the project by the organization’s management, based in Australia. However, due to special circumstances affiliated with this organization, the implementation of the project has been delayed currently and awaiting the signing of the work contract in the future after completing the preparation of funding requirements by the organization.
Environmental challenges and their causes
Under the supervision of Dr. Abdul-Amir Hussein Qasim, teaching staff at the College of Engineering, Civil Engineering Department, and with the participation of a number of researchers and specialists, the Director of the Environmental Research Unit delivered the symposium speech to the attendees. The symposium included several lectures. Assistant Professor Dr. Israa Zaki Muhammad from the Communications Directorate gave a lecture about communications towers and their impact on citizens’ health. Then, Mr. Senior Chief Engineer Muhammad Ahmed Najm al-Din from the Kirkuk Environment Department gave the second lecture on the goals of correct environmental management and ways of sustainable development. Regarding biological pollutants, Professor Dr. Rushdi Sabah Abdel Qader gave a lecture in which he explained the types of biological pollutants and the dangers of throwing them into rivers without treatment. As for legal legislation and criminal penalties, Assistant Professor Dr. Saddam Hussein Yassin gave a lecture in which he touched on the importance and necessity of applying these legal and environmental legislations in force against violators. The symposium concluded with several recommendations, including the necessity of a total transition to the use of optical fibers instead of the spread of communication towers and the Internet, which cause various diseases, and also the commitment of the concerned authorities to implement the criminal law against violators, in addition to providing a sufficient number of devices to measure air pollutants, in addition to establishing and developing treatment plants. Waste water. After that, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the participants.
