Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Jeleng Akram Omar, the respected
The discussion of the master's thesis of the student Rand Samir Bahjat Issa was held at the College of Engineering, University of Kirkuk, on Wednesday, 28/8/2024, under the title "The Effect of Nano-Calcium Carbonate and Polypropylene Fibers on the Strength of Compressed Earth Blocks". Supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Omar Muhyiddin Taha, a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering
The research study addressed the effect of adding polypropylene fibers and nano-calcium carbonate on the properties of compressed earth blocks produced from clay soil taken from the Laylan area north of Kirkuk city. The experiments included adding different weight percentages of fibers and nano-calcium carbonate to the soil, and then conducting compression, bending and durability tests for the samples.
The results showed a significant improvement in the compressive strength and flexural strength of the block when adding 0.2% polypropylene fibers with 0.25% nano calcium carbonate. In addition, an increase in the durability index was observed with increasing proportions of these additives, which enhances the strength and durability of the compressed earth block when exposed to moisture.
The discussion committee consisted of:
1. Asst. Prof. Dr. Lamia Najah Sanoudi - Chairman.
2. Asst. Prof. Dr. Aram Muhammad Rahim - Member.
3. Asst. Prof. Dr. Majid Hussein Hamad - Member.
4. Asst. Prof. Dr. Omar Mohi El-Din Taha - Member and Supervisor.
5. Asst. Prof. Dr. Omid Ahmed Muhammad - Member and Supervisor.
The discussion took place in the discussion hall at the Faculty of Engineering, where the committee praised the researcher's efforts and the importance of the results she reached in the field of improving environmentally friendly building materials.
