Civil Engineering Department Holds Industrial Advisory Board Meeting to Strengthen Partnership with the Labor Market

The Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Kirkuk, held a meeting of its Industrial Advisory Board on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Yousif Salam Saeed, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, and attended by a group of engineers and representatives of government institutions and the professional sector. The meeting was held as part of the department’s commitment to strengthening the partnership between academia and the labor market and enhancing the outcomes of the academic program in line with academic accreditation requirements and continuous improvement.

The meeting was attended by:

  • Consultant Engineer Othman Saeed Hassan, Director of Consultant Engineer Othman Saeed Hassan Laboratory.
  • Engineer Ihsan Anwar Shukor, Director of the School Buildings Department.
  • Engineer Qasim Ridha, representing the Director of the Kirkuk Municipality Department.
  • Engineer Nihad Khalil, representing the Director General of the North Gas Company.
  • Assistant Lecturer Wael Rami Raphael, representing the Quality Assurance and Academic Performance Evaluation Division.

The meeting discussed several important topics, foremost among them aligning the outcomes of the Civil Engineering program with labor market requirements, developing the academic curriculum and strengthening its practical component, as well as field training, graduation projects, and developing the professional skills required by the labor market among students and graduates.

The meeting also addressed prospects for cooperation in scientific research, engineering consultancy, and community service, in addition to strengthening quality assurance and academic accreditation procedures and mechanisms for the continuous improvement of the educational program.

The meeting featured constructive contributions and discussions from board members, drawing on their academic, professional, and field experience. These discussions resulted in a number of proposals and recommendations aimed at developing the academic program, improving graduate competencies, and enhancing their readiness to enter the labor market in both the public and private sectors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Civil Engineering Department expressed his appreciation for the participation and cooperation of the board members and their commitment to supporting the department’s academic mission. He emphasized the importance of maintaining effective communication and coordination with employers, government institutions, and professional organizations in order to contribute to the development of engineering education, improve program outcomes, and strengthen the department’s role in meeting labor market needs and serving the community.
