A Scientific Symposium on the Impact of Kirkuk's Dialects on Enriching the Linguistic Dictionary

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Farhad Aziz Mohiuddin, Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, the Department of Kurdish Language, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division, organized a scientific symposium entitled "The Impact of Kirkuk's Dialects on Enriching the Linguistic Dictionary." The symposium addressed linguistic diversity in Kirkuk, a region characterized by a multiplicity of dialects that have significantly influenced the development of the Kurdish language, its vocabulary, and its expressions. It also highlighted the linguistic overlap between Kurdish, Arabic, Turkmen, and Syriac dialects, and the impact of this diversity on enriching the Kurdish lexicon and giving it linguistic flexibility, making it more receptive to linguistic and cultural developments. The lecturer discussed the impact of Kirkuk's dialects on preserving linguistic heritage and communication between the diverse communities in the region, emphasizing that this diversity reflects a historical and cultural depth that has contributed to the development of the Kurdish language in terms of terminology and expressive styles. The symposium also addressed the importance of documenting local dialects through academic research. To ensure its preservation for future generations, the Dean praised the importance of these studies in enhancing linguistic research and documenting cultural heritage, emphasizing that the study of local dialects is key to understanding the evolution of language and its impact on shaping the cultural identity of societies. He also commended the efforts of the Kurdish Language Department in organizing such scholarly events, which enhance the status of linguistic studies at the college.
