Dr. Dilshad Omar Abdulaziz, a professor in the Department of History at the College of Arts, University of Kirkuk, has published a scientific research paper in the international journal Central Asian Journal of Literature, Philosophy and Culture.
The researcher explained that his study sheds light on a major cultural and civilizational crime committed against the Citadel of Kirkuk. This took place as a result of a political decision made by the former President of Iraq during his visit to Kirkuk on March 16, 1990, which involved the displacement of the Citadel’s residents and its demolition. Accordingly, the local administration in the city formed a committee to carry out the demolition of residential buildings and heritage sites the following day, allocating funds for the process. The evacuation and demolition of the Citadel were carried out in two phases: the first in 1990 and the second in 1998.
