The Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, Prof. Dr. Omar Najm Al-Din Inja, participated in the exemplary Family Forum titled "Mothers on the Frontline: Resilience and Dedication in Caring for Children with Special Needs."
In his speech, the Dean emphasized the importance of this topic, which deserves attention and focus, particularly in relation to educational, pedagogical, cultural, and awareness-raising institutions. He pointed out the existence of challenges and obstacles in this area that must be addressed—such as when a student has a disability, a report should be prepared regarding their condition, followed by placement in suitable academic fields that align with their needs.
He explained that there are international treaties concerned with persons with disabilities, as well as specific strategies aimed at securing their rights. He noted that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has allocated seats for them in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies and stressed the importance of maintaining special data to meet their needs and requirements.
He also pointed out that disability should not be a reason to exclude individuals facing such challenges. He added that recent Iraqi legislation has been enacted to protect them and to provide the necessary medical services and full support tools, enabling them to engage with others without discrimination or exclusion.
