The College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk organized an awareness seminar on hemorrhagic fever and methods of prevention. The seminar featured a lecture by Dr. Kwestan Najm al-Din Anja, Head of the Arabic Language Department, who explained that hemorrhagic fever encompasses a group of diseases caused by various viruses, including Ebola, Marburg, Lassa, yellow fever, and dengue. These viruses are typically transmitted through insects, rodents, infected livestock, or contact with bodily fluids of an infected person.
The seminar emphasized the importance of adhering to preventive measures, such as conducting awareness campaigns and implementing precautionary steps, especially in areas where livestock are slaughtered. This includes enforcing quarantine measures for animals before they enter slaughterhouses and regularly spraying livestock with pesticides two weeks prior to slaughter. Additionally, the seminar highlighted the necessity for healthcare workers to follow infection prevention and control protocols to mitigate the spread of the disease.
