The Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, Prof. Dr. Omer Najm Al_Deen Enja, participated on Friday, January 24, 2025, in the virtual international scientific seminar titled "Citizenship and the Civil State: Between Identity Conflicts and Human Values."
In his speech during the seminar, the dean emphasized the need to redefine the concept of citizenship and civility in order to understand the true criteria, concepts, and objectives related to the philosophy of Islamic law.
He added that there are different viewpoints in Islamic concepts on how citizenship is embraced, noting that a state can be civil if the will of society is reflected and if a law regulates it. From a civil system, we find acceptance of pluralism and freedoms, and the way of accepting the other is fundamental to ensuring the rights and duties of all citizens, along with adherence to democracy to achieve peaceful coexistence within society.
The dean pointed out the importance of drawing lessons and insights from such seminars to create strategies that benefit our communities, aiming at organizing laws and educating members of society, so that we can make conferences more applicable and practical for everyone's benefit.
