The Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, Prof. Dr. Omer Najm Al_Deen Enja, participated on Thursday (October 31, 2024) in the international scientific symposium titled "The Arabic Language as a Means to Understand and Preserve the Rights of Other Languages to Prevent Extremism."
The dean spoke about the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award, which he recently received in the United Arab Emirates for his research presented with extensive international participation.
In the symposium, he highlighted the need for societal stability to unify ranks for progress and creativity, especially in linguistically diverse societies. He noted that the Arabic language had been used by previous authorities in Iraq as a means of threatening, displacing, and excluding other languages, such as Kurdish, Turkmen, and Assyrian, which are present in Kirkuk.
He pointed out that the new government is characterized by democracy and enacts laws that serve the languages of the components of Iraqi society without discrimination, as stated in Article 4, First Clause, of the 2005 Iraqi Constitution. He explained that the aim of his research includes highlighting the beauty of the Arabic language and its use by its speakers in a way that respects other languages, making it a means to prevent extremism that leads to racism or harm to others.
The dean also noted that many non-Arab countries now speak Arabic, thanks to the Islamic mission, and that there are Arabic language learning centers in non-Arab countries that are expanding and developing.
