On Saturday, October 26, 2024, the Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, Professor Omer Najm Al-Deen Enga, participated in the international virtual scientific seminar titled "Environment and Social Health: How Do Climate Changes Affect Our Social Relationships?"
During his speech at the seminar, attended by academics and specialists from Jordan, Oman, Egypt, and Libya, the dean emphasized the need for serious action and intensified research to address the challenges facing all of our environments. He explained that the environment has a balanced system created by God, but human actions disturb it and cause pollution.
He pointed out that climate changes are significant, including drought, rising temperatures, unexpected floods, and unusual storms, which pose challenges to food security not only in specific regions but globally. This, in turn, leads to reduced production growth and negatively impacts the economic capacities of countries.
He also noted that this issue has gained international attention, with countries being required to enact stringent laws and regulations to protect the environment. Thus, when the United Nations General Assembly set sustainable development goals, such as ending hunger, preserving the environment and water, utilizing rainfall, and protecting green areas, it established a strategic plan for 2030. The goal is to create a suitable environment, optimize agricultural yields, and ensure food security for all people in all places and times throughout the year and in the years to come.
The dean stressed that the responsibility of protecting the environment rests with everyone, and the only party harmed in this regard is humanity itself, so we must realize the severity of this issue.
