Prof. Dr. Omar Najm Al-Deen Inja, Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, participated in the Second International Family Model Forum, held under the theme “Institutionalizing Support for Mothers of Children with Intellectual Disabilities: A Participatory Approach between Families and Care Systems in Facing Pressures and Marginalization.”
In his speech, Dr. Inja emphasized the crucial role of academic expertise in raising awareness and providing education to support people with special needs. He highlighted the significant burdens shouldered by mothers of children with disabilities, noting the psychological, social, and health challenges they face, often under difficult circumstances.
He praised the dedication of mothers who continue to provide care despite hardships, stressing the importance of reducing discrimination within families. Dr. Inja also pointed to Iraq’s legislative efforts, particularly the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which entrusted ministries such as the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs with providing vocational training, skill development, and monthly financial assistance to people with special needs.
