The Dean of the College of Arts at the University of Kirkuk, Prof. Dr. Omar Najm Al-Din Inja, participated in the international virtual scientific symposium entitled: “Psychological Immunization in the Arab Society: Towards Proactive Awareness in Confronting Addiction.”
In his address, the Dean stressed the importance of developing a comprehensive psychological resistance framework to counter addiction before it takes root. He emphasized the role of cognitive, academic, and awareness-raising education as essential tools to confront one of the gravest societal threats of our time—drug abuse.
In this regard, the Dean referred to the measures adopted by the Iraqi government to address this pressing issue, including the enactment of relevant legislation and the establishment of rehabilitation centers. He noted that addiction has evolved into a multifaceted phenomenon with economic, health, security, and moral dimensions. It is no longer confined to one nation but has spread across borders, becoming a transnational crime.
Accordingly, he underscored the need for the international community to reinforce legal frameworks at the national, regional, and global levels, and to intensify cooperation across all fields in order to combat addiction and halt its spread through all possible legal means.
